Jon is a common trail way-worker. He gets up at 5a.m in the morning and returns at about 8 p.m. Mary has nothing to do but be a housewife and do the rich’s favor to increase their income. [/font][/color][/size]
[size=14pt][color=#000000][font=Times New Roman]On a raining night , someone knocked their door, Mary answered with the wonder who called on them at that environment. At the moment when the door was open, she saw an old man whose whole the rain was dropping from his raincoat , his hand holding a basket . He asked Mary, “Excuse me , do you need some carrots? The rain is heavy . It is difficult for me to walk further. I have to disturb you to sell these carrots…….” Mary let the old man be in and glanced Jon .Because in the afternoon she had bought many carrots , which is enough for their whole winter’s vegetable . But when she faced the old man’s wet clothes , his creased face, his bony body…….. Although Mary’s heart is full of sympathy , she held that feeling and smilingly said ,”It doesn’t matter. I should thank for your carrots. My husband and are talking if we go out to buy some carrots . Because he returns too late and miss the carrot-seller. How many carrots do you have? I am wondering that I will take all of your carrots…….” The old man opened his mouth and seemed to dare not believe his ears . For in this kind corner of that small town he never met any family which bought all his carrots at one time.[/font][/color][/size]

[size=14pt][color=#000000][font=Times New Roman] When Mary let him put the carrots in their house , he finally find himself and said continuously “Thank you , thank you . But I don’t think you need all my carrots , especially a basketful carrots. Please only take the carrots you need…….” But Mary told the old man that they bought all of his carrots to store for winter. So the old man believed in her and took the empty basket disappearing in the heavy rain . [/font][/color][/size]
[size=14pt][color=#000000][font=Times New Roman]From the old man’s coming to his leaving , Jon never said a word , though Mary glanced him and asked a favor . But when Mary closed their door and turned to the desk, she met Jon’s gentle eyes . He smiled and kissed his wife and lightly said “ Thanks God for his giving me you warm-hearted wife. You make a lie , but it gives a man the warmest carefulness . I love this white lie . I love you , my darling…..”.[/font][/color][/size]
