You are the stars over my head
---on Christmas Eve
Stars you are over my head
Creatures without shadow or shade
Twinkling, twinkling,
Tears of a smiling maid
The heavenly palace wherein you reside
Ten thousand candle lights are found
Where else darkness is patched
And the missing moon once shined
Tonight by passion I am ruled
Wandering alone with a heart no longer sealed
The million unknowable distances
By million kings myth and wisdom guided
Feathers can carry me no farther on wind
For the earthly beings see only a bounded world
Ask not why keep an eye, quite and humble, since
You are the stars over my head.
I dedicate this poem to my dearest "friend" Jeannie. Hope her caring presence will make our forum shine brightly with words again!
